About Matt

My love of knife-sharpening began 10 years ago, simply because I was tired of buying new pocketknives every time one grew dull. I started sharpening my own knives with a simple hand stone. Though the hand stone did make it sharper, it wasn’t sharp enough. I tried many other techniques looking for the sharpness I wanted.

As I progressed, trying a variety of techniques to further refine my skill, I found a technique that:

  1. Does not take hours and hours
  2. Still provides the level of sharpness that I want to provide to my clients.

After over a year of trial and error, I honed my technique and began to get that mirror edge. I enjoyed the art of sharpening my knives to that clean cut mirror edge.

A Dull Knife is Pointless

Almost immediately, when my friend's would borrow a knife of mine - from hunting and fishing to woodworking pocket knives,  they would immediate notice the ease of use, perfect cut, and sharpness of the blade. Which led them to ask me what kind of knife it was. I would explain to them that it wasn’t the type of knife, it was the sharpening process that made the difference. I didn't realize it then, but word travels fast in our friends and family circle, and I soon became the "Go-To" guy to sharpen everyone's knives.

They would often remark that the knife was sharper than fresh out of the box.

The Sharpest Tool in the Shed

The more I sharpened, the more I realized how much I loved the process of turning an extremely dull knife into a knife with the edge of a razor blade. The process itself is therapeutic and the result is visible and gratifying. I get into a zone while I am sharpening, and it never feels like work.

I found myself thinking about sharpening even while I was working at my 9-5 as a diesel mechanic, and wishing I could be doing that instead.  My wife and I discussed the idea of  turning my 10 year hobby- turned side hustle into a full time business. The response from family, friends and new clients so far has been incredible.

Sharpening is my passion and I love seeing the excitement or shock on peoples faces when they use a knife after I have sharpened it.

Our family - a Cut above the Rest

Matt and Paige have been married for almost 5 years and have three fur babies - Scarlet, Eleanor and Bella. They live in Sanger, Texas.  Born and raised in Texas. Paige Collom Ramsey grew up in Plano. Matt was born in Alabama and "got here as fast as he could" when he was 10 years old.

Matt often jokes that Paige married him to ensure her knives would always be sharp.

Paige just laughs and replies, " I know a sharp man when I see him."

You could say that Matt and Paige are a match Blade in Heaven.
